Research area
- Study of qualitative composition and quantitative content of polyphenols in plants, isolation from them of individual compounds, elucidation of structure, determination of their biological activity, revealing a correlation between the structure of isolated compounds and their biological effect, developing on the base of these compounds highly effective remedies with broad action, using polyphenols in various branches of national economy.
Important results
- Chemical composition of polyphenols in over 70 plants, referring to the Annacardeaceae, Geranaceae, Punicaceae, Euphorbeaceae, Malvaceae etc, has been studied. 150 compounds were isolated from them, more than 20 which were found to be new, earlier not described in the literature. The efficient strategy of separation of hydrolizable tannins has been worked out. Correlation between the composition and quantity of phenolic compounds of cotton and their stability to diseases and vermine has been revealed. It has been revealed that for Gossipium sort plants and hybrid forms of hibiscuses the presence of cyanidin glycosides, for Hibiscus cannabinus - delfinidin glycosides are typical, but Malva, Alcea sorts contain, except above mentioned, glycosides of methylated anthocyanidins.
Practical application of results
- The chemical compositions are established and pharmacological and toxicological studies are carried out.
- Rutan possesses antiviral and interferon inducing activity.
- Getan is immunesuppressor.
- Punitan is gepatoprotector.
- Providin is antihypoxic.
- Gosfen is antitumor remedy.
Biological activity of polyphenols from a number of studied plants was revealed.
Determination method of tannic materials has been suggested.
Way of obtaining of tannic extracts is elaborated.
Way of obtaining of the foodstuffs dye worked out.
Plans for future
- To complete the creation of Rutan, Getan, Getasan, Punitan, Providin, Gosfen remedies.
To conduct studies of polyphenols of Euphorbeaceae family plants (33 types) and cotton (17 sorts), specific for our country.
